WWF Bussento Caves Oasis: Unspoilt Nature in the Heart of Cilento

Antico ponte in pietra immerso nella natura dell'Oasi WWF Grotte del Bussento a Morigerati, nel Cilento.

The WWF Bussento Caves Oasis, located in the municipality of Morigerati, is one of the most fascinating natural attractions in the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park. Surrounded by the lush countryside of the Gulf of Policastro, it protects a precious ecosystem crossed by the clear waters of the Bussento River.

Established by WWF in 1985, the oasis covers more than 600 hectares and was created to protect the area’s rich biodiversity. Numerous species of flora and fauna native to Cilento find refuge here in an environment that remains almost entirely unspoilt.

The nature trails were designed to offer visitors an immersive experience while respecting the natural environment. Along the way, walkways, viewpoints and observation areas provide opportunities to admire the landscape and wildlife without disturbing its delicate balance.

One of the oasis’s most remarkable features is the re-emergence of the Bussento River, which resurfaces after flowing underground for a long distance, creating a unique landscape of waterfalls, crystal-clear springs and lush vegetation.

The area also hosts environmental education activities, guided hikes, cave visits, nature camps and programmes dedicated to studying the ecosystem, offering an engaging experience for adults and children alike.

During your visit, you can also discover the Morigerati Ethnographic Museum, which houses thousands of objects connected to the farming and craft traditions of the Bussento area. Agricultural tools, household utensils, fabrics and handcrafted objects offer an insight into the daily lives of local communities and preserve a cultural heritage of great value.

The WWF Bussento Caves Oasis is an ideal destination for anyone wishing to spend a day exploring the nature, history and traditions of Cilento. It is a perfect excursion during a stay at Villa Comics and an opportunity to discover one of Campania’s most authentic and enchanting places.
